What To Bring
to your canoe lessons

Clothes:

Multi-layers, appropriate for changing conditions in the current season. Synthetic fleece or light wool for insulation, nylon or gore-tex for wind/rain protection.

Bring an extra set of warm stuff, just in case.

Touque and gloves in early spring/late fall.

Footwear: Neoprene boots, sandals, old running shoes, or rubber boots. Feet will get wet, so... extra socks and shoes to change into.
Optional Gear:

Paddles (incl. spare), Personal floatation device (CCG approved), rescue rope bag, bailer, knee pads, whistle, and of course, a seaworthy canoe with painters.

Discuss your gear with the instructor beforehand, so he/she knows what to bring.

Food: Trail mix, fruit, water bottle, thermos of tea/coffee, and lunch. Seal food in baggies. Often lunch is eaten on the beach, and we must take all garbage when we go.
Misc. options: Towel & bathing suit (for rescue practice!), books about paddling, waterproof camera,
Attitude: Courage, humor, determination, and willingness to learn and have fun.
